Moving Others:

“You are an immense and
awesome inspiration. My
heart was in my throat as I
looked through your site
and realized that my goal
was completely attainable.”
~ Abi

"I still have a long ways to
go, climbing up that
mountain, but I’ve got
people like you, who have
shared their successes to
lead the way – blaze the
trail, so to speak, that will
continue to help me to
strive towards my goal."
~Kris

“Your journey has shown
me it is possible-- and
hopefully I'll have the
courage to be able to
return to those places I felt
belittled and beaten down--
and triumph."
~Denise

Save The World Workout:
Kara took on a physical challenge each month for charity. The
aim wass by the end of the year, she'll be in great shape and
the world will be a better place.

Support her mission by clicking on the logos below:
January: At the strike of midnight 2009, Kara ran a four-mile race in Central
Park to launch the Save The World Diet. UNICEF is a global responder --
now on the front lines of the cholera epidemic and humanitarian crisis in
Zimbabwe. As a new mom,one of the biggest challenges was staying up
that late for the
Emerald Nuts Midnight Run!
February: The Penguin Plunge -- dunking myself into the icy waters of
Lake Champlain in FEBRUARY --  is for Special Olympics. It's all about
jumping in -- and participating, like Special Olympics gives so many
wonderful athletes a chance to do.
The Green Room, 86 St. Paul St., in
Burlington is hosting an Icebreaker Fundraiser at 8 p.m. Thursday Feb.
5, $20 suggested donation, $6 Penguin's Plunge Martinis!
March: This MS Walk at Lowry Zoo in Tampa, Fla., falls on the last
weekend of March -- two years from when my friend and colleague Marilyn
Dillon fell into paralysis from an MS episode. Her story goes on from
there, from moments when we almost lost her, to her brave and
courageous return to her feet. Please help me support this cause.
April: The last week of April is National Parks Week. In honor of our
national treasures, I will do the
Revolution Run, a 5K in Valley Forge
National Park. I support the National Parks -- from Jockey Hollow and the
Delaware Water Gap in my home state to the Grand Canyon, Bryce and
Zion -- as they have been there for me for training and some the most
amazing hikes of my life.
May: When I was about 360 pounds the only time I would imagine doing
a marathon: When Pigs Can Fly. So it seems only fitting that my first
marathon will be the
Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati. The marathon is
known for being a great first-time marathon, meaning if you have to walk
parts of it, that's OK because I race to finish. I'm doing this event to raise
funds and awareness for the American Heart Association. I love my heart!
June: Shanadoah Hike for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in honor
of my friend Jen's battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She won her battle
against the big C. We can all make a difference in stomping out Blood
Cancers!

July: The Mt. Trashmore 25th Annual 5K/Tot Trot The YMCA event is
about encouraging my own strong family. The YMCA provides a healthy
place for families to exercise and programs such as camps regardless
of their ability to pay.
August: 3rd Annual 5K Beach Challenge for Autism
The entire run will be on the hard sand at low tide. Proceeds All
proceeds will benefit Autism Speaks, a not-for-profit corporation
dedicated to increasing awareness about the growing autism health
crisis and raising funds for critical autism research.

September: The Start! Heart Walk at Duke Island Park in
Bridgewater, NJ.
The American Heart Association's Start! campaign is about getting up
and active.
Join my team so we can all get going!
October: From chocolate-central to New York City. The Tour De Pink
is a 220-mile bicycle ride that begins in Hershey, Pa., to benefit
young Breast Cancer survivors. This may be the toughest challenge
as my training for a bike ride must be sprinkled through the year.
November: Cancan for Hunger. I'll be organizing a dance for local
food banks to support them in the holiday season.
December: The year will end with a Kilimanjaro climb to benefit
Global Alliance for Africa
's AIDS orphans programs.
After all, my Kilimanjaro climb in 2007 -- which celebrated my
120-pound weight loss and raised $12,000 for cause -- inspired
this Save the World Diet. This 19,343 foot climb is worth every step
of the journey.
