Kara Richardson Whitely
Fat was swallowing my
dreams. It served as a
cocoon of sorts while I, like
many obese people, lived a
life of contradiction.
I longed to climb the highest
mountains in the world but
the only thing that went up
was my weight.
This is the story of how I
changed my focus from how
many pounds I wanted to
lose to doing what I wanted
to do in life.
It started with Camel's Hump,
a mountain where I was once
so out of shape that I had to
turn back.
After many mountains of
practice, I decided to take on
Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's
highest peak, as a
fund-raiser for children
orphaned by HIV/AIDS.

bodies have the power to do in the world.
Donate Click here to help Kara in her goal to raise $1 per foot of
Kilimanjaro -$19,343-- for Global Alliance for Africa. Enough for the
Chicago organization to build a library in Kenya.
