My 120-pound weight loss
and quest to climb Kilimanjaro
Fat was swallowing my dreams. It served as a cocoon of sorts while I,
like many obese people, lived a life of contradiction. I longed to climb the
highest mountains in the world but the only thing that went up was my
weight.
This is the story of how I changed my focus from how many pounds I
wanted to lose to doing what I wanted to do in life. It started with Camel's
Hump, a mountain where I was once so out of shape that I had to turn
back. After many mountains of practice and more than 120 pounds lost, I
climbed Kilimanjaro as a fund-raiser for children orphaned by HIV/AIDS.
More than anything, I learned weight loss is all about the journey.

on the scale and more on what our bodies
have the power to do in the world around us.
